Disabled Drivers' Motor Club |
Massive Vote For Merger
Members of the Disabled Drivers' Association (DDA) and the Disabled Drivers' Motor Club (DDMC) have voted in their thousands to support a merger between their two organisations.
The results of a poll of members, announced at meetings held in the last weekend in June, showed a 94% vote in favour with less than 1% of members against.
“We are delighted with this ringing endorsement of the merger process” said DDMC Chief Executive Ed Passant “The task is now to build an organisation that represents the voice of all disabled drivers and passengers. Our joint resources, including a combined membership in excess of 30,000 and a signi fi cant infrastructure, makes that entirely possible”
Douglas Campbell, Executive Director of the DDA described the case for merger as compelling. “We can remove unnecessary duplication and concentrate on the issues that matter, ensuring that the needs of disabled motorists are recognised at the highest level.”
Work will now continue on the technical aspects of merger, with a planned launch of the new organisation by October 1 st and a combined magazine in the New Year.
And it's goodbye from him….

Ed Passant, Chief Executive of the DDMC, will be leaving his post at the end of July.
“When I started work with the DDMC in June 1999 I wrote a detailed business plan that included the need to seek merger with the DDA. I'm delighted that we have fi nally achieved this objective and have enjoyed immensely the opportunity of working with such a great team of staff, trustees and area representatives. The merger gives me the ideal opportunity to concentrate on other interests, such as www.accessholidays.com – my accessible holiday accommodation in France - and other areas of consultancy in voluntary sector management and public relations.
It is not quite a final farewell as I'll remain a member of the Merger Working Group, to assist with the technical issues of merger, and Editor of “Disabled Motorist" until the two magazines are combined.” |
