Disabled Drivers' Motor Club

Wherever you're going the Disabled Drivers' Motor Club is well worth taking with you!

We have been the voice of disabled motorists' since 1922, starting as a small club of a few dozen members and growing into an organization of over 15000 from all walks of life and in every part of the United Kingdom, as well as many other parts of the world.

Merger success

The DDMC and DDA have now merged. Six wise men in 1922 took the courageous decision to set up The Disabled Drivers' Motor Club. Then it had only a handful of members but over the 83 years, it has been built up steadily by the Council of Management to 15,000 strong today. The future is now brighter. Together, doubly strong, we will be a force to be reckoned with and second to none.

The new charity is registered with the Charity Commissioners of England in the name of Mobilise Organisation, charity number 1111826. Current members of DDA and DDMC are automatically members of Mobilise Organisation and as such start to benefit from the larger charitable operation straightaway.

Mobilise Organisation is a working title . The consultation with Members in the summer about a new name was inconclusive so work has begun to re-brand the charity. “This is a very exciting opportunity. Deciding an appropriate name is one of the most important tasks for the new organisation and we want to get it right. The name needs to be memorable and signal how we aim to make a difference for those we represent,” said Pamela Morrissey, Chief Executive of Mobilise Organisation. This process will take time, so during this transition period Members will still receive communications in the name of either the DDA or DDMC. And when you contact each organisation by telephone staff will answer in the usual way.

What merger means for you

More people, more knowledge, more power

  • Belonging to a community that has almost doubled in size – around 30,000 and set to grow

  • Having a stronger voice where it counts at local, regional and national levels on issues that matter to you and others like you

  • Having the potential to access information, knowledge and experience from a greater number of people

New combined magazine planned for mid February

Over time you will see the changes taking place. Behind the scenes, all existing systems must be merged. The first exciting development will be to combine the magazines. The first issue will pop through your letterbox in mid February 2006. “In the coming months we will be researching Members views about the format and how they would like the magazine to develop,” said Pamela. “Members are the life blood of the organisation and their needs and aspirations are paramount. We want to start as we mean to go on and that is by putting our Members at the centre if its development,” she continued.

Membership renewal

All current Members are now members of Mobilise Organisation. If you joining us now you can join here and you will become a Mobilise Member. If you are already a member you will receive a reminder letter when it is time to renew.

Membership of both DDA and DDMC

If you are a Member of both DDA and DDMC you only have to renew ONE membership. The date on which your second membership lapses will become the first date of your renewal. No need to worry if you are unsure which membership lapses last - a reminder letter will be sent to all Members as normal.

Contacting Us

If you would like to contact us for any reason please contact the organisation in the usual way.

Important ! Nominations for Election to the Board by 27 January

The Annual General Meeting of Mobilise Organisation will be held at 11.00 on 22 April 2006 at a venue to be announced. At the first annual general meeting all existing Trustees must retire from office therefore the following positions become vacant at the AGM: Chairman (elected for a three year term), Vice-Chairman (x2), Treasurer and nine Directors. Mobilise members are invited to nominate individuals to stand as elected members of the Board of Mobilise Organisation.

Your nomination(s) will help shape Mobilise Organisation in the years to come. It is the Directors' hope to attract candidates who are representative of the whole membership and who in turn represent the widest spectrum of the disabled community. Candidates must be full members and 18 years or over on date of appointment to the Board. Training and support will be given on appointment. To obtain a nomination form please send us an email or telephone the Mobilise registered office on 01832 734 724. Completed forms are to be returned to the DDMC office by the 27 January 2006.
